MOA Grey Lynn is thrilled to present the works of Shona Tawhiao one more time in New Zealand before she takes up an artist's residency at The Metropolitan Museum in New York in Early August.
________________________________________________________________________
Shona Tawhiao is a renowned Māori fibre artist whose 'harakeke couture' has brought her international recognition. Shona's garments have been shown in Paris, London and Melbourne and beyond.
Shona's artistry and use of traditional weaving in innovative and exquisite designs has led to a number of her pieces becoming part of New Zealand museum collections.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has offered Shona an artist's residency via the Oceanic Arts department on the strength of her talent and its relevance and value beyond our lands.
Moa Grey Lynn invites you to a showcase of Shona's stunning works a final time before she heads to New York. This showcase reflects a long standing relationship between the artist, Shona Tawhiao and MOA owners and designers Julie Stevens and Debbie Hindin. MOA were the first to stock the work of Takirua Weavers of whom Shona was a founding member, along with Judy Hohaia and Joy Wikitera.
Come along and witness Shona's incredible Designs on July 19th and see first-hand why New York are so determined to have her.
